Managed Care Stats

The National Center for Health Statistics indicates that the size of a company can determine the type of healthcare provided to employees. More findings can be seen on the NCHS home page at http://www.cdc.gov.nchswww/.

  • Larger firms (100-plus employees) tend to offer the highest coverage at 96 percent compared to one-third of smaller firms (less than 10 employees).
  • The presence of union employees also impacts coverage-only 52 percent of non-union employers offer coverage compared to 84% of companies with a unionized work force.
  • Firm size also influences level of coverage. Four out of five businesses that offer insurance only sponsor one health plan. Larger firms with 50 or more employees offer more choice with one-third of them offering two or more health plans.
