Download, Purchase Medical Images From New Web Site In Minutes

In a matter of minutes, healthcare communicators can now download high-resolution medical images from the Internet for publishing projects via two new Web sites, MediClip (http://www.mediclip.com) and LifeART (http://www.lifeart.com).

The sites contain thousands of human anatomy images that can be downloaded and purchased with a credit card. Williams & Wilkins, a Baltimore.-based international publisher of print and electronic media for medicine, nursing and health sciences developed the sites.

These images can be used for enhancing the visual appeal of newsletters, press releases, presentations, annual reports and patient education materials, according to Elizabeth Haigh, a Williams & Wilkins publisher.

Launched last month, the MediClip site features eight anatomical and clinical collections, containing 350 images in color, grayscale and black-and-white. Titles include "Manual Medicine," "The Upper Body," "The Lower Body" and "Clinical Ob/Gyn Images."

The LifeART site contains 27 collections of two-dimensional and three-dimensional color art images for medicine- dentistry-, nursing- and other healthcare-oriented topics. Nine image collections are scheduled to be added later this year.

Visitors can browse through image collections or enter keywords like "heart" or "lungs" to search for individual images. A "heart" search, for instance, will locate 92 images that are presented on the screen in groups of nine thumbnail sketches. Search response time is less than a second, according to MediClip.

Registered visitors can view a history of images they've purchased and download them a second time within 30 days for free. In addition, visitors can download two free images that are posted to the site every two weeks.

Users can purchase by clicking on the "add to cart" feature.

A CD-Rom shipping option is also available via UPS, Federal Express and the U.S. Postal Service.

More than 6,000 medical images are available via MediClip and LifeART. Individual images are available for $29.95 and image collections start at $99.
