The Power of Habit

On September 14 at the Platinum PR Awards luncheon at the Grand Hyatt in New York City,  PR News will salute the year’s most outstanding communications initiatives and programs in the highly competitive and dynamic PR arena. This must-attend event will honor the corporations, agencies and nonprofits large and small who took chances, made tremendous strides and understand the power of public relations.  

Charles Duhigg, best-selling author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, will deliver the keynote address at the luncheon. In his presentation, Duhigg will share insights into the science behind habit formation and how companies like Target and Febreze are using use that information to study—and influence—what consumers buy.

Comedian and filmmaker Mark Malkoff will be the master of ceremonies for the celebratory luncheon event. Malkoff, who has appeared on Today, Good Morning America and the CBS Early Show, starred in a popular video in which he visited and consumed products at all 171 Starbucks locations in Manhattan in less than 24 hours. He also achieved worldwide media attention for his video series in which he lived and slept in an IKEA store in Paramus, N.J., for an entire week. Stand-up comedian Vanessa Hollinsghead will also be on the entertainment slate. Vanessa, who has appeared on Comedy Central, is a quintessential New Yorker—she just got her driver's license.

The luncheon will take place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on September 14 after the morning PR Writing for Social Media and the Web Workshop. Both events will be held at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.
