Winner: Hughes General Contractors, Inc. VCBO Architecture and Davis School District — Odyssey Elementary Open House
Odyssey Elementary is an innovative school built around the theme: Bodies in Motion: The Animal Kingdom. The school champions the importance of healthy, active lifestyles and helps students to understand their place in nature. It is a net-zero capable facility and has successfully become the greenest, most energy-efficient public school in the state of Utah. Utterly unique in its design, it accommodates any learning modality the teachers wish to implement.
At Odyssey Elementary’s open house, they wanted the event to be an interactive, informative, and fun experience for students and parents. We wanted them to be educated on green construction, specifically on green schools, and to be able to recognize the many benefits. Doing so would spread an awareness through the community and, yes, let people know what a wildly innovative building Hughes General Contractors, VCBO Architecture, and the Davis School District created together.
The turnout at the event itself was enormous. The school was filled with excited family and media representatives scurrying from wing to wing, eager to learn about the school. The audience in attendance was the community of taxpayers who will benefit from Odyssey Elementary. Event-goers left with an understanding that with all of the cutting-edge green technology and 21st century design, the school did not cost any more than any other elementary school.
