It didn't take long for Facebook to elbow its way back onto media sites. Just one day after Google unveiled its Google+ social network, Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg announced to reporters that Facebook was going to "launch something awesome" next week, according to Reuters.
Actually, Google hasn't disappeared from the media cycle. By the afternoon of June 30 the company had stopped inviting people to join Google+, apparently because too many signed up at once. As of the evening of June 30 it is once again possible to sign up for Google+ with a Google e-mail address.
Did the Google+ service really shut down because of overload? Who knows—but it got headlines.
Is Zuckerberg's announcement really going to be awesome? Maybe not, but his ability to steal Google's thunder certainly is.
