A jack-of-all-trades in strategic communications, Jason Meyer plays a leadership role across several of APCO Worldwide's key client accounts.
This broad range of experience informs Meyer's holistic approach to mitigating communication and public affairs challenges. Meyer has taken on the lead digital strategist role for one of APCO's top clients, CSX. He also contributes strategic counsel across the full breadth of corporate positioning and issues management work that APCO conducts on behalf of this client.
When in fall 2011 the White House proposed to impose a $100 departure tax for each U.S. flight in controlled airspace, Meyer spearheaded the development and maintenance of the Airlines for America (A4A): Stop Air Tax Now Campaign’s digital engagement strategy—a platform intended to mobilize industry supporters and provide a sensible pathway to making their voices heard among key decision-makers on Capitol Hill. In deploying both Facebook and Twitter channels to lead the online discussion on this issue, Meyer worked closely with the web developer, building the campaign website to ensure integration and cross-pollination of messages. This effort amassed an active community of more than 120,000 engaged social activists—ranging from airline employees to travelers to business leaders—in less than two months.
App he can’t live without: “Shazam. As a big fan of diverse types of music I’m always instantly distracted when I hear an interesting song that I’ve never heard before. Grabbing my mobile phone and ‘Shazaming’ an unknown song has become instinctual to me.”
Inspiration in his PR career: “I find myself most inspired by the rapid pace with which communications must evolve in order to match social shifts in the world. We’re no longer waiting decades for new trends to emerge—we can see changes from year to year, if not from month to month.”
