2016 Top Places to Work in PR: Kaplow Communications

Employees say it’s fun to work at Kaplow; colleagues enjoy each other’s company. There’s a sense of belonging to a warm, welcoming family. Everyone looks forward to summer outings—which have included a scavenger hunt at a museum and a Yankee game, to name a few.

The agency has a cultural leadership team that looks at employee affairs and determines creative ways to provide a positive working environment. The team is comprised of select employees who plan and organize events, outings, celebrations and community service activities throughout the year. These range from in-house celebrations for the holidays, to fielding a team to run in the Brooklyn Marathon, to hosting an on-site yoga class.

Kaplow has a longstanding commitment to staff development. Its Kaplow U offers more than a dozen courses on a regular basis (some annually, others several times each year) on topics ranging from "Best Writing Practices and Presentation Skills" to “Understanding and Using Analytics.” Employees are expected to complete at least 6 credits per year. The agency also covers tuition for outside classes when training is not offered by Kaplow U.

Kaplow is not only a woman-founded, woman-owned agency, but seven of the eight members of its senior leadership team are women; and in the next-tier management group (vice presidents), all but one position is held by a woman.

The agency also has long-established annual events: Every year during holiday season, Kaplow runs a toy drive to benefit children in need; every summer, employees spend a day volunteering at Project Morry, a year-round youth development program and camp.
