Klean Kanteen – #BringYourOwn Campaign

#BringYourOwn is Klean Kanteen’s activism and mission at work. It is a movement led by Klean to change mainstream behavior around the problem of single-use waste—and to engage and inspire Klean consumers, partners and friends in that important work.

Bring Your Own launched in 2014 with a series of short films produced by Klean Kanteen. The films show real-life people confronted with uncommon, single-use scenarios, underscoring the social and cultural issues that contribute to the ubiquity of disposable products in American daily life. The call to action: “Let’s Talk About It.” #BringYourOwn appears at the end of the films—giving viewers a way to join the conversation and interact with Klean.

The hashtag #BringYourOwn allows Klean to have genuine conversations with consumers in a dynamic space. Anyone can participate in the movement by tagging content on social media, rocking a #BringYourOwn bottle at a festival or event or simply talking about what it means to bring your own. These conversations fuel the movement to reduce single-use waste and build brand recognition and affinity for Klean.

As a B-Corp, Klean’s metrics around success of a project or campaign are very different than most traditional business. It is committed to a triple bottom line approach to business, and all of its work is driven by a mission to inspire healthy choices and create benefit for the people and places where Klean employees live and play. With that ethos in mind, the goals of the BringYourOwn project were to inspire a different conversation, a shift in mindset around single use and offer ways for fans to get involved and follow along the journey.
