2017 Top Women in PR

Cristina Henley

Director of Public Relations

Strayer University

Cristina Henley has built her career on developing reputation management and corporate social responsibility platforms for national brands that are committed to changing their industries for good, while facing intense public scrutiny.

Her work includes building partnerships with Nordstrom and other inclusion-focused Fortune 1000 companies for the Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy during her time at Ogilvy Public Relations; leading consumer communications and crisis response for Cox Communication’s Northern Virginia operations; and most recently, leading PR and corporate communications for Strayer Education, a for-profit academic institution in an industry fraught with intense scrutiny.

In the last year, Henley has supported the establishment and acquisition of new brands under the Strayer Education umbrella—the Jack Welch Management Institute, Strayer@Work, and the New York Code & Design Academy, which all required first-ever portfolios of thought leadership, media relations, social media, partnership and other PR and communications activities.

Her go-to market strategy for Strayer@Work’s new free college degree offering—the first of its kind in the U.S., for example—earned 700 millions earned and social media impressions, derived from coverage in the Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, CNBC and 300 other global media outlets; as well as a first-ever Skills Index partnership with LinkedIn and three feature panels at SXSW Edu.
