WorldCom Chief Has PR Blues

When John Sidgmore, CEO of WorldCom, first commented on the news of accounting improprieties that have made his company the focus of an international media feeding frenzy, he
said he was "shocked by these discoveries." While senior execs at other companies have been vilified for their involvement in corporate accounting scandals, Sidgmore's reputation
is suffering instead for his ignorance regarding the books. Sidgmore (also the chief exec at Ecommerce Industries according to reports in The New York Times and other prominent
sources) is being questioned about his commitment to WorldCom and its stakeholders, as management experts wonder how he could in good conscience hold the title of CEO (and reap
the massive financial benefits) while having little to no knowledge of the day-to-day operations of a major corporation like WorldCom.
