Case in point: Working with Build-A-Bear Workshop since 2004, Blick & Staff looks to demonstrate that the company has a heart through the Huggable Heroes program that encourages youth volunteerism. Each year a multi-tiered, multi-touch approach engages schools, community groups and nonprofits to identify the best ways to recruit nominees and engage organizations to participate in the program. Heroes are honored at a ceremony that includes a service project, and they each receive a scholarship and donation to a charity of choice.
Now in its 10th year, more than 100 children have been named Huggable Heroes and have collectively been awarded nearly $1 million in donations and scholarship money. Thanks in part to the half a billion media impressions garnered, funds and gathered items raised topped $40 million. —SVC
