Media Training Your Key Executives
(and Yourself)

Wednesday, June 14, 2006
1:30-3 p.m. ET

A Webinar brought to you by PR News

Register

Bonus for attending:
all attendees will receive PR News’ Top 10 Media Training Articles: a compendium of media training articles and case studies.

How well do your senior executives and designated spokespeople present themselves to the media – and therefore to the public and your key stakeholders? If they are always “on message” and engaging, then the June 14 PR News workshop we have planned is not for you. However, the majority of communications professionals who either serve as a spokesperson or are responsible for media-training their top executives know how high the stakes are – and that the road to failure can be quick and painful.

The June 14 PR News Webinar is designed to make you a better spokesperson and to learn how to efficiently train your key executives to present themselves and their key messages to the media. You know that media failures strike right at your organization’s reputation and sometimes your bottom line. So in just 90 minutes, we’ll show you the ropes of media training and share best practices of some of the country’s top spokespeople.

At this workshop, our expert media trainers and award-winning spokespeople will show you how to:

  • Take control of your media interviews
  • Gain critical leadership skills
  • Handle sensitive issues during an interview
  • Avoid misquotes
  • Respond to crises effectively
  • Becoming a reliable source for reporters
  • Map your messages
  • Develop quotable messages and sound bites
  • Field difficult questions and bridge to positive answers
  • Appropriately decline to answer certain types of questions, i.e., proprietary, classified information, hypothetical, litigation and competitive questions.
  • Media train for various scenarios, i.e., press conferences, on-air vs. print, etc

Hear from these experts:

Ed Stewart
Director of Public Relations
Southwest Airlines

Andy Gilman
President & CEO
CommCore Consulting

Todd Hansen
Senior Vice President/Group Director, Chicago Corporate Practice

What equipment do I need?

For the audio connection:

  • A computer with Real Player or Windows Media Player installed. When you log into the Virtual Seminar, your computer will be taken through a brief configuration check and will let you know if you're missing any software.
  • If you do not have Real or Windows, a touch-tone telephone will work also. It works best to use a speakerphone so that others can listen too.

For the Internet connection:

  • PC: 166Mhz Pentium-based PC or better
  • Operating system: Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP
  • Browser: For optimal viewing experience, we recommend using Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. However, any version of IE 4.0 or higher will work. For Netscape, only versions 4.x are supported at this time.
  • Internet connection: 28.8 or faster connection
  • Display set at 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600
