Leah V. Haygood
Founder and President, BuzzWord
Leah V. Haygood is founder and president of BuzzWord. She has more than 20 years of experience in the environmental, sustainability and corporate responsibility fields. Since founding BuzzWord in 1999, she has served as the main author of Ford Motor Company’s award-winning sustainability and corporate citizenships reports, led the writing team for Chevron’s 2004 to 2006 corporate responsibility reports, and worked with several other U.S. and international companies to develop and implement sustainability and reporting strategies. From 1997 to 1999, Leah worked with Business for Social Responsibility’s environmental program and BSR member companies on supply chain environmental issues and environmental challenges affecting the apparel industry.
Leah served as director of environmental planning and programs for Waste Management, Inc. from 1992 to 1997. She was a principal architect of Waste Management’s process for planning, goal-setting and performance measurement under its environmental policy and developed the company’s first annual environmental report and five subsequent reports. Before that, she was an associate and project director with the RESOLVE Program on Environmental Dispute Resolution at the World Wildlife Fund and Conservation Foundation. She also worked for the State of Connecticut promoting renewable energy.
Leah is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Barnard College and holds a master’s degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
