BIOGRAPHY
Thomas J. Hanley, APR
Director, Public Relations Connecticut Children’s Medical Center
Tom Hanley has been on both sides of crisis communications, as a 20-year healthcare public relations professional, and as a former journalist. In 2005 he was named the National “PR Spokesperson of the Year” for Crisis Communications among non profits by PR News and Commcore Consulting.
Director of Public Relations at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and its predecessor, Newington Children’s Hospital since 1988, he previously served as Director of Public Relations at Mount Sinai Hospital and Corporate Communications Officer at Society for Saving in Hartford. He earned his APR accreditation from the Public Relations Society of America in 1992.
A four-year elected term on a regional board of education and a stint as its chairman during a $70 million high school building project put additional crisis communications scar tissue on his hide.
