Stephanie Bunker
Public Information Officer/Spokesperson
United Nations
Stephanie Bunker has served as the public information officer/spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in NYC since fall 2002. Before that she worked for three years (1999-2002) in the Office of the United Nations Coordinator for Afghanistan (located in Islamabad Pakistan), where she served as spokesperson/public information officer. This was during and after the era of Taliban ascendancy in Afghanistan, including the post September 11 period. Before that, she worked as reports officer for the UN World Food Programme for Afghanistan (1996-99). She lived in Pakistan for a total of 12 years at two different times.
Before joining the United Nations, Stephanie worked variously as an educator, editor, free lance writer, and journalist. She was educated at Indiana University, Rutgers University and University of Michigan.
Orginally from Indiana, she is married to Dr. Shahrukh Rafi Khan, an economist who currently teaches at Mount Holyoake College. They have 2 daughters, 19 and 21.
