John Verrico

National Association of Government Communicators
John Verrico is the Communications Director of the National Association of Government Communicators. A retired Navy Reserve Master Chief Journalist, he has more than 29 years experience in public affairs for government agencies, working extensively in media, community and employee relations. He is currently the spokesman for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Science & Technology Directorate. In previous positions John served with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Maryland Department of Environment, the Governor of Maryland, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and the U.S. Navy, and is a former freelance journalist. John is also a
professional trainer in communications and motivational leadership. John received his Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership from Norwich University and a Bachelor of Science in communications from the University of the State of New York. He has received numerous awards including the PRSA Silver Anvil for his community relations programs, Admiral Thompson Award for Public Affairs Excellence, multiple military awards and was named one of
the Top 5 Event Managers of 1998 by Exhibitor Magazine.
