Joel Frey
Senior Public Relations Manager
Travelocity
Joel Frey likes to juggle. And as Senior Public Relations Manager for Travelocity, he gets plenty of practice managing and overseeing the day-to-day PR needs of the company’s flights, hotels, car rentals, cruise lines and packaging lines of business. Additionally, Frey manages Travelocity’s crisis communications, tries to incorporate witty comments into executive speeches and is a handler of the company’s mascot, the Roaming Gnome.
Frey began his career in PR at the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau. There, he worked with travel writers and small film crews worldwide in securing positive press on behalf of the city as well as the CVB’s partners in the hospitality industry. In addition to developing strong ties with local hoteliers and restaurateurs, Frey worked closely with officials at the mayor’s office and the Chamber of Commerce on several projects.
In September 2007, he independently published his first book, Two Sides of a Cypress Wall: The True Story of a Reluctant College Graduate, a bittersweet story of coping with the discovery that life in your early twenties is more than just finding a real job.
Frey grew up in suburbs of New Orleans and Memphis, wrote Two Sides of a Cypress Wall over a two-year span while living in a suburb of Dallas and relocated to El Paso in January, 2008 following his marriage to Heather Presley, who is written about in the book. Joel and Heather were reconnected in December 2006 when he called her to inform her of her inclusion.
Frey earned a B.S. in journalism from Middle Tennessee State University.
Favorite Travel Moment: “Walking on Poipu Beach on the island of Kauai with my wife on our honeymoon.”
