Bruce Kasanoff’s 3 Words That Will Transform Your PR Career


1378643_10151972605501972_563312135_nNew York: On Tuesday October 15, Bruce Kasanoff, managing director at Now Possible, took the stage at the 2013 PR News’ Platinum PR Awards. In his keynote, Kasanoff enlightened a packed room full of PR pros with three words that can transform their careers.

“Help this person.” No three other words can be more impactful, Kasanoff suggests.

The term community has become somewhat of a buzzword lately in terms of how communicators think about their stakeholders and publics, but when you think about community, you can’t forget Kasanoff’s three words. It’s impossible.

He says the most important members of a community are givers. And according to Kasanoff, givers:

-Understand the best thing for them is what’s best for their customers

-Are inclined to see potential in others

-Influence others but in a modest way

-Listen carefully to understand what others need

-Genuinely care

“Giving is the best strategy that any company can employ,” Kasanoff says. But to execute that strategy you will need to continuously ask yourself: what can I do? How can I help? What does my client need?

The results may vary, but Kasanoff says the tactics are clear—talk less and help more.
