As PR departments brace for what’s expected to be another year of dramatic change in the PR field, here are some tips for where PR managers should keep their antennas tuned to finding the PR stars of tomorrow, today.
Keep your eyes peeled on those younger PR pros who are not just well versed in how to properly use myriad social channels, but have the chops to tie the use of social media to the top and bottom lines as well as the company’s marketing strategy.
Be on the lookout for budding videographers. As every company becomes a quasi media company (creating ever more video content to feed the maw), PR managers need to pick out those employees who have online-video savvy and also feel comfortable in front of the camera. Why? PR departments will need people to host and/or moderate the Q&As, roundtable discussions and corporate documentaries that will soon be de rigueur online.
Most PR shops, of course, operate at an unyielding pace. Cultivate those employees who strive on that and are proactively pushing the PR needle. You should also take note of those PR pros who—during those times when clients are clamoring for more content and the walls are on fire—know how to keep their cool, the mark of a solid PR pro.
