It seems that everybody is jumping on the Pinterest bandwagon these days, but how many brands are using the fastest growing social media platform effectively? More importantly, what tactics should brands be employing to drive business through Pinterest?
These questions were recently addressed during the Pinterest Power:How to Use Pinterest to Drive Brand Awareness, Sales and Engagement webinar hosted by PR News and featuring a panel that included Marcy Massura, digital supervisor and strategist at Weber Shadwick, Jill Morris, managing director, Not For Sale and Travel Channel’s social media director Nisha Chittal.
The 90-minute webinar provided the audience with a wealth of entertaining and practical information.
One of the panelists, Travel Channel’s social media manager Nisha Chittal offered up this great advice:
Rule Number 1: Engage! Don’t just post your content without engaging. Re-pin others, like and comment on things you like, invite followers to comment, create group boards, or offer contests.
Rule Number 2: Put yourself in the user’s shoes. Is this photo inspiring, entertaining, or informative for the user? If not, post something else. Need ideas? Ask your followers what they want to see from you.
Rule Number 3: Engage with influencers to help spread your brand further. Some ways to do this are by following and re-pinning influencers, commenting, or creating shared boards.
After showing some of the amazing things the Travel Channel is doing with Pinterest, where they have already attracted over 22,000 followers on 32 boards, she offered the following advice:
Keep captions short and focus on beautiful, eye-catching visuals
Approach copyright issues with caution
