Trends & Tactics

Editor's Note: In this new feature, we offer you the latest trends and statistics - plus a look at how they apply to your role as a corporate communicator.

Trend: The latest PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Barometer, a quarterly survey of top executives at large multinational businesses, points out a powerful new opportunity for
communications execs.

The good news: Half of multinational corporations in the United States and Europe are making new efforts to increase transparency in financial reporting. The bad news: They're
targeting shareholders and analysts, most of whom already have the information they need.

Customers and employees get the short end of the stick, despite the fact that 98 percent of U.S. companies say customers are very important to their business model, and 88
percent say the same of employees.

Tactics: Financially savvy PR pros should step up to address these key audiences (see cover story).

  • Work with the financial department to boil down critical information to distribute to employees
  • Update sales teams and other front-line employees to ensure that your customers are getting the financial information they need
  • Use your Web site as a powerful tool to reach a variety of key stakeholders
