Tracking the PR Industry

The Council of PR Firms wants agencies everywhere to stand up and be counted. The trade association has, for the past few years, published a ranking of agencies by size and
industry - albeit with limited success because many firms are reluctant to divulge financial information.

To encourage participation this year, the Council invites firms to participate anonymously. The payoff? You'll receive a helpful report detailing trends and industry analysis,
and you'll feel darned good that you're helping bring attention to an industry that, according to Council president JackBergen, is grossly under-measured. "One half of Anderson
Consulting is still bigger than the entire worldwide PR industry as it's currently recorded," he says, adding that a more accurate estimation will bring PR professionals more
attention from the financial community.

We just hope he doesn't resort to scare-tactics to encourage participation, like those U.S. census commercials last year. This editor still feels for those poor kids who had to
have school in that broom closet because, well, people didn't fill out the census forms.
