A recognized world leader in corporate social responsibility, UPS has for the fourth consecutive year earned the number one ranking in the consumer shipping category of the Climate Counts Company Scorecard. UPS tied for second overall in the 2012 global list of 145 .

For the past several years UPS has offered customers products and services that address environmental concerns, including UPS carbon neutral shipping and its Eco Responsible Packaging Program. In 2011, UPS increased its purchase of alternative fuel vehicles by 35% and shared its experiences and best practices through a variety of communications, including a white paper produced by the EPA, the Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. UPS also received media attention for its nontraditional approach to fuel conservation with the introduction of composite plastic package cars—an innovation that made its vehicles 900 pounds lighter and 40% more fuel efficient, all while preserving safety standards. —Steve Goldstein
