2013 CSR Awards: CSR on a Shoestring

Winner: QlikTech – The 10-10-10 Challenge

QlikTech, a business intelligence software provider, asked its stakeholders a provocative question: Can $10 change the world?

That question was the basis of QlikTech's 10-10-10 Challenge, whose goal was to help the nonprofit organization HOPEHIV fight AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa by raising $100,000 in 10 weeks.

At the annual QlikTech company meeting in 2012, HOPEHIV founder Phil Wall gave $10 of his own money to each of QlikTech's 1,000 employees and challenged them to find ways to raise $100 to support the organization. With $10 in hand, the employees launched raffles, parties, bake sales, scavenger hunts, Playstation challenges—anything fun, personalized, inexpensive and easy to communicate.

The challenge far exceeded the goal: more than $150,000 was raised for the children of Africa in just 10 weeks. —Steve Goldstein
