Tom Flynn, PR Giant in Bay Area, Dies…

Flynn, whose career encompassed journalism, politics, government, and corporate communications, died late last month from congestive heart failure. He was 67. Flynn retired in
1995 as senior vp of Public Relations for Bechtel Corporation, the San Francisco-based engineering giant. Prior to joining Bechtel Flynn was a prize-winning reporter for
the San Francisco Examiner and Oakland Tribune (and served as a correspondent in Vietnam for the Tribune). He belonged to numerous PR organizations,
including PRSA and IABC, and was a founding member of the San Francisco Academy, a corporate-sponsored program designed to improve the skills of PR
professionals (see PR News, Sept. 13, 2004). Flynn's family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the San Francisco Food Bank, 900 Pennsylvania
