Mayo Puts Its Web Site On 'Headline Watch'

The site, Mayo Clinic Health Oasis (http://www.mayohealth.org) added "Headline Watch" to its consumer online offerings this month, which provides daily updates on mainstream media health coverage.

In August, the health topics included updates on birth control pills, hernia repair and smoking cessation. The site draws upon the expertise of Mayo Clinic's 2,000 physicians and research scientists.

It also encourages surfers to get proactive with evaluating their health in two areas-allergies and high blood pressure-through an "Allergy Assessment Tool" and a "High Blood Pressure Quiz."

In addition, Mayo is providing health coverage support to three online consumer media sites - U.S. News and World Report (http://www.usnews.com), CNN Interactive (http://www.cnn.com) and Microsoft's health channel (http://home.microsoft.com).
