Health and medical Web sites continue to win popularity contests among home surfers, with more than 60% saying they visited a health site in the past year, according to a
recent PD Data Online survey. Entertainment sites, which attract more than 77% of home surfers, are the only sites that command more usage.
Diagnostic purposes (58%), general medical issues (56%) and wellness information (43%) are the top reasons online users visit health sites, according to the survey.
Other survey highlights include:
- 85% of those surveyed plan to spend the same or more time at health and medical sites next year.
- The most recognized health sites are webmd.com, drkoop.com, discoveryhealth.com and onhealth.com.
- Health insurance sites at 68% are more widely visited than hospital sites at 20%.
The study is based on a survey of 1,618 home Internet users.
