As summer fades, so, too, will many of those promises to hit the health club to get in better shape...that is, until New Year's resolutions start to creep up on us a few months
from now and the promises start anew. But for the magazines listed below, promoting a healthy lifestyle is a year-round (and not a seasonal) affair -- ditto for PR-oriented story
pitches that run the personal-health gamut, e.g., medical and psychological health, food and nutrition, and fitness and grooming. Rodale Inc. (Emmaus, Pa.) leads the
consumer-publishing pack in titles (with heavy circulations) that promote healthy, active living, including Men's Health and Prevention, which is now the 11th
largest magazine in the country, reaching a total of nearly 10.5 million readers each month, according to the magazine's Web site (http://www.prevention.com). (Rodale also publishes Backpacker, Best Life, Bicycling, Mountain Bike, Organic Gardening
and Organic Style.) Like Prevention, both Health and Weight Watchers Magazine target female readers, while Men's Fitness (from American
Media
Inc.) appeals to, well, guys.
