Sports Afield is a Flop

Sports Afield shuts down following the June issue, citing postal increases, higher manufacturing costs and the media recession as factors in the title's demise. Hearst sold the
pub in 2000 after attempting to switch its focus to an outdoor adventure mag. Peterson, the new owner, returned the editorial focus to its original "hook and bullet" format, but
to no avail. (Peterson, 212/953-0137)
