Sonia is an award-winning marketing communications executive and recognized advocate of the business imperative of diversity and inclusion.

With deep expertise and insight into the delicate balance between assimilation and cultural preservation produced by immigration to America, Sonia is a passionate advocate for the power of the Hispanic market. As senior vice president, director of Hispanic marketing at Porter Novelli, Sonia has driven measurable change for clients including SOYJOY, Bayer, Timberland, Gillette, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HP and Merck.

Before joining Porter Novelli in 2006, Sonia was instrumental in the development of Weber Shandwick’s multicultural agency, Axis.  During her tenure she developed and managed integrated marketing initiatives for Coca-Cola, American Airlines and SC Johnson, among others. Prior to that, Sonia was on the public relations and marketing team in Los Angeles for Telemundo, and was a member of the communications team at Univision’s flagship station, KMEX-TV Channel 34 in Los Angeles.

Sonia is an outspoken champion of diversity as a competitive necessity. She launched and chairs Porter Novelli’s National Diversity Council, is a member of the Omnicom Diversity Development Advisory Committee, and served two terms as the national chair of the Public Relations Society of America’s Diversity Committee.  She is also a mentor at the Young Women’s Leadership Foundation of East Harlem, which creates single-gender public schools and college access programs, empowering students to break the cycle of poverty through education.

Sonia has been honored for the impact she has made in business and the community. She was named a CSR Professional of the Year by PR News in 2012 for leading Porter Novelli’s diversity initiatives, and a 2011 LATINA Corporate Executive of the Year by LATINA Style magazine, for excellence in corporate leadership, mentorship and dedication to working with the community.
