January Williams is the national digital director of strategy at Service Employees International Union (SEIU), an organization of 2 million members united by the belief in the worth of workers and the services they provide. Previously, January was the director of online communications and outreach at the Children’s Defense Fund, where she was charged with enhancing online awareness for the organization’s programs, policy initiatives and fundraising efforts. She has more than 10 years of experience creating integrated marketing communications campaigns for associations, non-profits, NGOs, government and e-Commerce brands.

Prior to joining CDF, January worked as a freelance digital strategy consultant for a number of small businesses as they transitioned toward including digital marketing communications into their overall business models. Previously, she was the marketing and public relations coordinator for the American Chemistry Council where she implemented an association-wide social media communications program to promote the benefits of chemistry, worked on the team that reignited the Plastics Make It Possible® campaign, and helped shift public opinion of the chemical industry online. January has held positions in many top-tiered agencies as an account supervisor in Edelman’s Grassroots Enterprise practice, an interactive strategist with DDC Advocacy, and a new business development and digital intern with Fleishman-Hillard International Communications.

In her free time, she enjoys playing with her puppy, checking up on her friends on Facebook and mentoring up and coming communications and PR professionals.
