David Sommers is the director of public affairs for the Los Angeles County Chief Executive Office, guiding media relations, social media and other strategic communications initiatives for the nation's largest municipal government. He first joined Los Angeles County in 2005, serving for five years as communications director for Supervisor Don Knabe. He is also a former television journalist, spending three years as a political producer with NBC affiliates in the Northwest.

In 2000, David was awarded the James Madison Freedom of Information Prize by the Society of Professionals Journalists as one of the youngest journalists to ever be involved in a major court battle. He spent six months in contempt of court for refusing to turn over unpublished photographs and the names of anonymous sources. The case aided in a major change and strengthening of the California Shield Law, improving the rights of journalists and media organizations across the state.
