SNEAK PEAK AT HEDIS

You may want to wait to do patient satisfaction surveys --although the complete HEDIS 3.0 document, a four-volume compilation of broad narratives and narrow technical details, won't be ready until early January -- a summary of major changes made to the final draft will be available at the end of this month.

One of those volumes, a compilation of technical specifications, also will be available at the end of the month so implementation teams can get a head start, said Carolyn Cocotas, assistant vice president for new-measure development with the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

The summary and specifications will be issued to organizations that order an advance copy of the HEDIS specifications, Cocotas said. The four-volume set costs $375, with individual prices for single volumes or combinations. For ordering information, call 1-800-839-6487.
