Say What?

There is confidence, there is hyperbole and then there is fantasy. A headline on a press release caught our eye as an example hailing from the latter category: "DesignFreak,
Inc. Launches New Media Web Site Cornering $75 Billion Industry."

DesignFreak is a 41-employee California startup that has spent almost two years and $3 million of someone else's money preparing a Web-based "vortal" for high-end digital
graphics artists and designers.

In a conversation with the company's spokeswoman, Shanda Kelsch, PR NEWS learned that the site has not, in actuality, cornered the industry market, although Kelsch
clarified, with great sincerity that "it is our goal to capture that market."

When we asked about competitors, Kelsch mentioned toolfarm.com and creativePlanet.com. Then she paused, and said, "Well, and for some reason, I'm thinking Adobe is a
competitor." She was indeed referring to the $1 billion company, creator of Photoshop, Illustrator and PageMaker.

We would think that might slow down DesignFreak's plans to corner the market.
