Say What?

Believe it or not, we reporters are smarter than we look. Perhaps the president of CS Hyde Co. thought he was going to pull a fast one when he sent this cover letter
[sic], along with a recent release, to our colleagues in the Aviation Group at Phillips Business Information:

"Enclosed is a Press Release from my Company, CS Hyde Company. CS Hyde Company already advertises in several trade publications. We are market testing other publications like
yours for our 1999 Advertising budget. [Uh, you still haven't spent last year's budget?] We have found that Press Releases are the best gauge of market response and advertising
impact. Please notify us when this Press Release has been published."

Hey buddy: when you pay for it, it's called advertising. When you deserve it, it's called PR. When you try to use one to leverage the other, it's called bribery.
