Kathleen Warren describes her recent PR hit:
“I invited the nationally syndicated columnist Neal Peirce, the nation’s leading editorial writer on development and urban issues, to walk through a former Seattle slum that has been transformed into a green, sustainable and mixed income neighborhood. He didn’t respond but about a week before his trip to Seattle for an AIA conference, I sent another pitch (with the subject line: “Kids can play outside here”). He phoned and agreed to walk through the project with our client, Mithun, the architectural and design firm that planned and designed the project (www.thehighpoint.com). He stressed that he was only looking and had many other column ideas waiting.
He came, he walked and asked questions for three hours and fell in love with High Point. His column was in print less than two weeks later. He called High Point “a model for 21st century development” and the quotes from our client were perfect. It provided the kind of “high level” media relations that Mithun wanted.”
