Virtual PR. Thanks to the spread of application service providers (ASPs), shrink-wrapped software will soon be as obsolete as Betamaxes, 8-track players, and the Vanilla
Ice comeback album. Lexis-Nexis jumps into this space with a Web-based media management service called PRanywhere, developed by its recently-acquired unit, Press Access.

The service, which goes up against competitor wares such as Vocus Public Relations and Bacon's MediaSource, offers scores of publication profiles and journalist contact
information, and allows subscribers to manage media lists on the Web and create customized broadcast emails.

The best part about putting PR grunt-work in cyberspace, says VP of product strategy Rochelle Nemrow, is that you don't have to deal with in-house IT folk. For January only,
Lexis-Nexis is offering the service for half-off the regular price of $1,000 per user per year.
