Reed Business, IDG Show Solidarity in China

Next to India, China is the world's biggest emerging market (or
vice versa, depending on whom you ask). Tech publishing giant
International Data Group has been in China for more than twenty
years and knows how to navigate the People's Republic. Reed
Business Information currently publishes several titles in China,
including EDN China, Electronic Manufacturing China and Control
Engineering China. But in the current b-to-b publishing climate --
still stormy -- strength in numbers helps. So IDG and Reed have
started a partnership to aid Reed's expansion in China. Terms were
not disclosed. The first publications Reed plans to launch, with
IDG's assistance, include entertainment bible Variety, which turns
100 years old next year, as well as Packaging Digest. The Chinese
version of Variety, is expected to debut in April or May, with a
biweekly frequency and an initial circulation of about
25,000...Separately, IDG rival CMP Media will launch Dr. Dobb's
Journal, which targets the software developer market, in China.
