PRSA COO TO REPORTERS: TRY FUNDRAISING

What's the best field for "downsized" journalists? You might
expect the chief operating officer of the Public Relations Society of
America to say, of course, PR--especially since so many PR execs did
get their start in journalism.

But in an article in the April 27 edition of newspaper industry
magazine Editor & Publisher, PRSA's COO, Ray Gaulke says that
"fundraising" is a promising field, "since many journalists have
senior-level contacts."

Make 'Real Money'

Whatever career path they choose, journalists' job searches
should be less onerous than that of other executives, added Gaulke,
because they "don't have to hold out for six-figure salaries to
maintain their lifestyles...

"I tell displaced journalists, 'Even though you went into this
business for the love of it, and not for the money, you have acquired
great skills; now you can go out and make real money.'" (Editor &
