The following data has been provided to PR News by William M. Mercer Corporate Marketing & Communications survey. All data from Mercer's 2001 Survey is reported as
national findings. Some variations can be expected based on geography. Not surprisingly, the U.S., salaries tend to be highest in large cities on the East and West coasts (New
York, Boston, and San Francisco), and lowest in smaller cities across the southern states. In addition, geographic differences are more pronounced at lower salary levels, where
the market for talent tends to be local or, at most, regional. At higher salary levels, there is more of a national market for talent, so there is less variance in pay.
