PR Industry Honors Sept. 11 Victims

PR pros nationwide have banded together to form a nonprofit project honoring Mark Bingham, the San Francisco PR exec who has been hailed as one of the heroes of United Flight
93, and other victims of Sept. 11. The nonprofit project, "One Day's Pay," calls for PR practitioners and others to donate a day's salary or perform a day of community service on
Sept. 11 to mark the anniversary of the national tragedy. "People make their own decisions," says David Paine, president of PainePR and an organizer. "They can donate money to a
charity, volunteer at a local soup kitchen or buy groceries for the elderly neighbor down the street." The Web site, http://www.onedayspay.com, allows participants to submit their pledges of service or donations. The pledge, Paine says, is simply a good
faith commitment to participate in the initiative on 9/11. The site is getting about 11,000 hits a week, which Paine says is pretty good "considering this is all word of mouth in
the industry."

The organizers are hoping to procure 1 million pledges next year, as well as foundation grants. "Anyone out there in charge of foundations for major corporations should
definitely get in touch with me!" Paine says. (Paine, 949/809-6878)
