Associate Director of Communications
Smithsonian National Zoo
[email protected]

As associate director of communications for the Smithsonian's National Zoo, Pamela Baker-Masson manages the overall communications programs and branding strategies for the zoo. She shares the complex and fascinating world of animals, conservation science and the beloved D.C. institution through innovative social media programs, transparent media relations, publications and the Web. However, her legacy may be just "personal publicist to two giant pandas."

With more than 28 years of experience in communications, media relations, development and marketing, she has worked in primarily nonprofit, education-oriented and international organizations. Prior to the zoo, Pamela served as the director for community outreach and public affairs for the Africa Center for Strategic Studies where she managed all external outreach efforts for programs across the continent of Africa. She has worked as a consultant for UNESCO in Paris, and previously at the Smithsonian served as manager of public affairs for the National Museum of Natural History.
