Online Arsenal

It is clear that Mr. Levy ("Open Mike," PRN, Jan. 31) missed the point of my article, "Press Releases Are A Colossal Waste of Time" (PRN, Jan. 3). My point is
that quality, not quantity is what counts.

If he had read carefully he would have noted my point that once an editor is interested in your company, no amount of information is too much. I would hardly describe myself as
"an enthusiastic PR person." I consider myself an Internet marketeer. I only work for companies with an online presence, and PR is but one tactic I use. My experience is that an
affiliation with a site that has 4 million unique visitors a month can do a lot more than a press release to drive global traffic and sales to a client's Web site.

A Vote for Independents

I liked your article, "Freelancing Loses Stigma" (PRN, Feb. 7) and prepared a top ten list of reasons to choose an independent PR professional over an agency.
(Editors' note: PRN regrets to inform that we only had room for three.)

  • An independent PR professional prepares the quote, does the presentation, and after winning the contract doesn't dish the job off to juniors.
  • Independents are more apt to pursue the kind of work they are good at and have a passion for instead of going after anything they can get.
  • An independent consultant does not get absorbed in the kind of nepotism that exists in many agencies.
