… One Network Fails the Test

CNN, however, and lead anchor Aaron Brown have felt the backlash
of negative press after Brown did not return to anchor CNN's
coverage after hearing of the disaster. His conflict: He was
participating in a golf tournament. Brown has said that even if he
had been able to get to the Los Angeles bureau, he "didn't have any
clothes." Other networks' lead anchors, including Tom Brokaw, who
hopped two different planes to cover events live at Cape Canaveral,
were on the air within hours of NASA's announcement. Brown and
CNN's PR department maintain that his presence was not necessary
and that other CNN reporters, including Miles O'Brien, the
network's chief space expert, filled his shoes quite capably.
