New PR Service
Media Distribution Services, a PR printing, mailing and faxing service, has added a free North American media guide to its Internet Web sites at http://www.mdsconnect.com and http://www.prplace.com.
The guide includes newspapers, wire services, news and feature syndicates, trade and consumer magazines, network radio and TV stations and local media outlets in major cities. It also features a summary of U.S. media statistics. (MDS, 212/279-4800)
PR Web Site Links You to the Globe
A new Web site that links PR consultancies in 10 of the world's most important financial centers (Brussels, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, New York, Paris, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo and Zurich) was launched July 15 at http://www.gfcnet.com.
The site showcases links to individual Web sites, a global client list and links to various new business services.
GFC/Net came together in January of this year to provide PR support for clients who have dealings in these global financial markets.
The partners are Trimedia, New York; Farner Public Relations, Zurich; Fishburn Hedges, London; Forrest International, Hong Kong and Singapore; Information et Enterprise, Paris; Inoue Public Relations, Tokyo; Interel, Brussels; John Connolly & Partners, Syndney; and Kohtes & Klewes, Frankfurt.
OBITUARY
Former PAC Chairman Bowling Dies
James Chandler Bowling, chairman of the Public Affairs Council in 1985 and vice chairman for the preceding three years, died of pancreatic cancer June 24 in New York City. He was 69.
As chairman, Bowling spearheaded one of PAC's most successful membership drives and presided at the council's 30th anniversary celebration which was attended by such notable guests as Chief Justice Warren Burger and Attorney General Ed Meese.
Bowling retired from Philip Morris in 1986, where he was a senior VP and director. After retiring, he became a member of the senior advisory board at Burson-Marsteller in New York.
Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Louisville, the University of Kentucky, Midway College or Berea College. (PAC, 202/872-1790)
ACQUISITIONS
Bozell Sawyer Miller Group, New York, has acquired Charles Barker plc., a PR firm in Europe. Charles Barker is based in London but also has offices in Brussels and an affiliate network throughout Europe. (BSMG, 212/445-8127)
Wichita-based Sullivan Higdon & Sink has acquired The Avion Group, a Kansas City-based firm specializing in the aviation industry. As part of the deal, The Avion Group's name was changed to Sullivan Higdon & Sink, although its address will remain the same: 12351 West 96th Terrace, Suite 201, Lenexa, Kan. 66215-4410; Phone: 913/888-0884; fax: 913/888-0883.
