Microsoft Jumps on the Blog-wagon

We recently told you about the increasing appeal of Weblogs,
among PR execs (PR NEWS, March 22, 2004). These are online diaries,
many of a political bent. Now Bill Gates has set his sights on the
growing online phenomenon. Microsoft recently announced that it
would create a special search Web site just for Weblogs. MSN
Blogbot will debut sometime in the first half of the year, along
with MSN Newsblot, a search site devoted to news. It's impossible
to know the actual number of blogs, but at last check Technorati,
which monitors Weblogs, was tracking -- deep breath -- 1,973,555
blogs. A Microsoft spokesperson said the service would not index
all blogs, but just the ones that MSN determines provides the most
useful information.
