Ketchum Seeks High-Tech Firm

Ketchum Public Relations

is looking for a high-tech PR firm to acquire, PR NEWS has learned.

The New York-based agency has had discussions with a number of firms, which President Ray Kotcher declined to name. The purchase of a technology agency would allow Ketchum to capitalize on the tremendous business opportunity in the high-tech market, evidenced by the growth of several high-tech start-ups to $10 million in fees in less than 10 years.

Kotcher said a high-tech acquisition also would enable Ketchum to integrate technology expertise in areas such as multimedia and the Internet into firm operations, as well as client offerings. A deal "could be" completed this year, he said.

With cash infusions from its new parent, Omnicom Group Inc. [OMC], Ketchum has been investing in expansion around the globe, most recently with a partial purchase of Toronto firm Langdon Starr (PR NEWS, Sept. 2, p. 6). (Ketchum, 212/878-4600)
