Surprise! College Editors Like Email

Sixty-two percent of college journalists prefer email pitches, according to
a survey of college journalists who attended the annual National College Media
Convention last November in Washington. Just 15% prefer releases via snail mail
and even fewer want materials faxed (13%). A whopping 70% of editors regularly
turn press releases into stories (17% have run them verbatim). Eight of 10 college
editors are interested in entertainment news, which, we fear, means that whoever
Eminem is dueting with this month is preempting more important news in ivory
towers everywhere.
