Broadcast Buzzwords. Heading out for a b-roll shoot? Might want to brush up on your broadcast vocabulary. Some terms you should know, courtesy of News Broadcast
Network:

Air check: Dubbed copy of an on-air broadcast by a station or network.

Backhaul: Satellite feed from a remote site to a ground station, which downlinks the material, edits or encodes it, then uploads it for mass distribution.

ENG: Electronic news gathering; i.e., a VNR or Internet package.

IFB: Interrupt Feed Back. A channel allowing technicians or producers to talk to talent without being broadcast.

Kicker. An inconsequential, humorous or zany final item used to close a TV or radio broadcast. Also called a zipper.

MOS: Man on the street.
