SECTION EDITORS DAYS TO CONTACT/DAYS TO AVOID METHODS COMMENTS
Business

One of the only Times departments that accepts unsolicited pitches over the phone. It is not, however, receptive to email pitches.

Assignments Editor: Daniel Rosenberg 212/556-1474 Fax: 212/556-4007 Other editors: Technology: Tim RaceMarketplace: Tom RedburnMedia: Barbara Strauch National, international: Len Apcar Best day is Friday; Monday is usually a bad day to contact Business editors. Editors of this section prefer fax or mail the most; email the least. If you are going to call an editor, be sure the story merits immediate attention. Long-term stories, such as features or profiles, are farmed out to various specialized editors, so your best bet is to to target your query to the specific editor.
Travel

A theme-based weekend supplment; this section normally selects its focus topic weeks ahead of press time. This means it's not the perfect choice for immediate story placement.

Editor: Betsy Wade, ("practical traveler" editor) Fax: 212/556-1604 or mail to address above. Send release four to seven weeks before your ideal press date. Avoid contacting editors on Thursdays or Fridays. The Travel Section closes on Friday and goes to press on Monday for a Sunday publication date. Mail and phone are best methods. Email has a "less than improbable" chance of getting through, but it can be used to pursue communication about stories that have been accepted. Fax submissions are not efficient unless some initial discussions have occurred. Travel editors are particularly receptive to information on adventure vacations. This is the lead-off to the daily Thursday Arts & Leisure page. It runs stories on a wide range of architecture and design topics with a decidedly urban bent.

Editor: Elaine Louie c/o The Home Section at the address above. Note: If you represent a client of suitable nature for the "At Home With" or "At Lunch With" columns, contact the column's main writer, Alex Witchel, c/o Home Section. The best day to contact editors is Friday, when the week's copy has already been published. Call early in the morning, between 9:30 a.m and 11 a.m. Prefers mail. The section does not give out fax number, which it reserves for use of reporters only. It also does not like email pitches . While this is clearly a trend-driven section, editors remain open to hearing from PR executives about which particular trends are hot. Of all sections mentioned in this chart, this one is most parochial, in that it favors coverage of tri-state area of N.J., N.Y., and Conn
